Matot/Massei "Tribes/Journeys" Numbers 30:2-36:13 — 5771

Consider Matthew 27:25 (“Let his blood be upon us and our children”) in the light of Numbers 30:3-15 (too long to reprint here).

As the bridegroom, Jesus the Messiah had the authority to annul the vow made by Israel on that day, and he did when he said, “Father, forgive them. They know not what they do” (Luke 23:34).

Where did he get this authority? Why, Bamidbar, of course: Numbers 30:15 says, “But if he [a husband] shall any ways make them [the vows made by a wife] void after that he hath heard [them]; then he shall bear her iniquity.”

The Lord himself bore the iniquity of us all. Oh, what a savior!
